Abstract
This article presents a new type of energy management solution to the micro grids consisting of substantially higher quantum of water heater loads and Electric Vehicles (EVs). The proposed strategy tries to reschedule the consumption pattern of the water heater loads and also charges the EVs so that the cost of power purchase decreases. Unlike the other DSM strategies adopted in literature which try to shift the operation of noncritical loads from one point in time to the other, the presented approach schedules the heating loads using electric springs without change in the operational time. Further, the projected energy management algorithm also tries to reduce the cost at which the power is purchased from the utility. The holistic approach of scheduling the controllable loads using electric springs and EVs is probably the first attempt. In order to prove the effectiveness of proposed algorithm suitable mathematical models are developed in MATLAB and tested on a 14 bus distribution network.
