Abstract
Ovarian cancer, one of the leading causes of gynecological malignancy, poses major challenges due to its advanced-stage diagnosis and therapeutic resistance. High recurrence, slow drug development, and adverse effects associated with the current therapeutics (Paclitaxel, platinum derivatives, PARP inhibitors, and angiogenesis inhibitors) demand novel therapeutic strategies to enhance the treatment efficacy and survival rate. This review highlights the recent development of distinct synthetic agents, such as organometallic complexes, photosensitizers, and herbal extracts with promising antiproliferative potential. These compounds showcase their potential to overcome the limitations of conventional therapies by exhibiting different mechanisms such as telomerase inhibition, apoptosis induction, and mitochondrial depolarization. Moreover, the review highlights the implications of these novel molecules in addressing the demerits of traditional therapeutics such as drug resistance and adverse effects.
