Abstract
Electric power generation from wind has emerged as one of the most successful renewable energy resources, and has started making meaningful contributions to the overall energy requirements worldwide. The increased penetration of the wind power generation in the generation mix influences the overall operation of power systems, which were until recently supported by large synchronous generators. Hence, in turn, several power system utilities issued technical grid connection requirements (GCR) specifically addressed for wind farms in order to be allowed to connect to the electric grid. This presentation will discuss the major GCR imposed on wind power. Later on, the presentation will focus on how the technical innovations emerge to meet the GCR by the most popular wind energy conversion scheme i.e., the doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) system.
