Abstract
Polyoxometalates (POMs) represent a category of molecular clusters composed of metal oxides, and their distinct qualities of structure, geometry, and modifiable redox properties. This chapter provides an original and concise overview of the status and prospects of POMs in supercapacitor applications. An outstanding feature is their multitude of redox-active sites, stemming from the intricate three-dimensional cluster of metal-oxide ions interconnected by oxygen atoms. We delve into the transformation of POMs: from initial molecular clusters explored in fundamental research to advanced materials poised for the next generation of energy applications like supercapacitors. The different structures and synthesis strategies of POMs have been discussed, followed by the utilization of POMs as an electrode material for supercapacitors.
