Abstract
This mini-review covers the use of bio-polymers in food packaging application. The use of bio-based resources, biopolymers and their composites, opens up new opportunities in developing sustainable food packaging by replacing conventional packaging materials, especially plastics that are derived from fossil fuels. Recent innovations to improve the passive characteristics of bio-polymers in food packaging, namely barrier performance, mechanical strength, and thermal stability, are also discussed here to satisfy consumer health, market needs and environment safety.
