Abstract
The modeling and simulation of a single-stator, dual-rotor induction machine having two rotors along the same axis and under a single stator frame is presented here, which is suitable for driving electric vehicles. A steady state model is established based on the equivalent circuit approach for simulating the machine performance under various operating conditions. A dynamic model in the d-q frame is proposed which will be useful for studying the transient behavior of this machine with different control arrangements and power converters so as to assess its application potential. Based on the experimental observations on a prototype 7.5 hp, 110 volt, 50 Hz, 4 pole machine having double cage rotors, the model is simulated taking into consideration the variation of magnetizing reactances and associated core losses. Rotor parameters are also assumed slip dependent in the simulated model to include the double cage rotor effect. The performance of the model has been verified by comparison between simulation and experimental results.
